The Sofa-Scratcher is a contoured, sisal-covered scratch-panel designed to safeguard your furniture against even the most aggressive cat. Simply attach the low-profile base, slide it under the leg of a sofa to anchor it in place, and you've got instant scratch protection...and one scratch-happy cat! Scratching is a natural and healthy activity for cats. Don’t discourage it, redirect it! And no matter what, don’t ever, ever, declaw! Scratching is great for exercise and stretching, for relieving stress or boredom, and for marking territory. It can be extremely pleasure-inducing and it's also the natural way to condition and promote healthy nails. A good scratcher is tall enough for a cat to get a full stretch and flex, which is why furniture is often the object of desire. The Sofa-Scratcher provides an enticing alternative in an already scratch-friendly location, while at the same time offering needed protection for valuable possessions...and it looks good too! This scratcher isn’t an eyesore like so many other options out there. With nine different neutral colors available, matching or accenting the décor of any room is never a problem. When I received this product, I was thrilled with the quality of it and...bonus...my kitten loves it. I'm ordering 2 more because they are so effective and there are more places the kitten likes to climb. They look nice in the living room, not cheap. I'm very happy with it.So far works great and it's not hideous. I was a little worried I'd be encouraging them to scratch in an area I'm trying to get them to avoid - they actually use the scratcher and leave the rest of my couch alone. Definitely worth spending the money and it's saving our new couch. From Frank the cat:THIS THING IS THE BOMB!! Mom and Dad finally realized I'd done a thorough job shredding the corner of the sofa, so they got me this!Me and my sister have been at it non-stop. It seems like it's gonna take us a while to destroy this one - it's pretty solid. Sure, it wiggles a little bit, but that just adds to the fun, and it doesn't seem like I'm going to be able to break it any time soon.It took my two cats (the third cat is the *good* cat and already uses her own scratching post) about a day to get used to the scratcher. In fact, initially, they scratched AROUND the scratcher, forcing me to put tape on the couch to try and dissuade them. But first I caught one caught using it, then the other. I'm thinking about buying a second scratcher for the other side of the couch, but I'll see if they're good just using this one first. Some suggestions for (possible) improvement: Make the scratcher taller. One of my cats really likes to stand up tall and stretch her whole body out as she scratches, and the scratcher isn't tall enough for that. She's inclined to then just scratch slightly above the scratcher (on my COUCH!). The scratcher could also be sturdier. She gives it a good, hard tug when she scratches, and it does wobble.I'd also suggest maybe different shapes. The sides of my couch are square, so it looks kind of "eh" with a rounded scratcher shoved onto it. A nice right angle to hug the side of the couch would've been nice.I am not a person to write reviews unless a product really exceeds my expectations. My cats just LOVE to scratch the back corners of our sofa. We’ve tried every scratching post known to man and they just didn’t use them. Their preference - my sofa! We saw these corner scratchers and thought we give it a try. SUCCESS!! So much so we bought another one for the other side. Very pleased with this product.Even though it’s easy to put together, the holes are not pre-drilled and you will need someone strong or a drill to seat the screws.I bought these because I have a cat that continually ONLY wants to scratch our furniture. I bought these because they are tall and she's a long cat that likes to reach up high when scratching. These are only for furniture protection positioned on the corners of our couches. I now have 3 of these and position them at rear corner and front corners of a couch and on front corner of a couch that is against the wall. She wants to scratch at the places my husband and I sit - I think claiming ownership of that territory and us from my other cat. My other cat is perfect and never scratches furniture! Anyway - I've lost an Ethan Allen Wing chair to this furniture scratching cat and have completely given up that piece of furniture - I'm trying to prolong life of our couches with these. So far so good she can't get at areas of couch she wants to scratch so she goes back to the Ethan Allen Wing chair - of which the stuffing has now been reached by her sharp claws. I recommend these to people trying to protect their furniture. However, my furniture destroying cat refuses to use ANY type of cat scratcher no matter what it might be - no matter what it is made of, no matter putting catnip or toys on it nor me scratching my finger nails up and down it nor by putting her on it and rubbing her paws on it! Most frustrating! My cats ruined my furniture. I researched cat friendly furniture, upgraded to expensive microfiber fabrics, only to quickly learn they still love to scratch on microfiber…ugh! I am glad I found these as they are working so well! They are sturdy and take up no room in my small apartment. They fall over.. alot. My cats bump into them or we bump into them and when the fall they make a really loud sound. It's not fun to wake up at 3 am to a loud crash sound from the living room. On the bright side my kitty loves them!
