I’m an 80’s baby that grew up being raised by a brilliant tough cookie of a Sicilian, hard working mother that worked two jobs all my life before she got sick. She was always home in the morning to make breakfast after her over night nursing shifts, pack a homemade lunch, take me to school and go on to her second job. Pick me up from school and make us home cooked dinner. Never complained. Kept a small outdated house up as proudly as she could and always made sure I had what I needed. Including the hour or two she could carve out to spend time with me snuggling on the couch watching our golden girls. She wasn’t around much because she was too busy taking care of me and her and making sure she gave us the best life she could. My mother has dementia and her poor little soul is so tired and broken.
